The Skalit’s Revenge is filled with riches, but it is also crawling with a cursed skeleton crew and threatened by a series of deck-shattering explosions. Unlike traditional dungeon crawlers, this game forces you to manage the environment just as much as the enemies, as every turn brings new fires that can block your path or blow the ship apart.
As you explore the ship by placing tiles, you must carefully manage your limited action points to put out fires, battle deckhands, and take down powerful skeleton guards. The game uses a unique dice-based system to track the intensity of the fire in each room; if the fire level gets too high, the room explodes, increasing the danger for everyone on board. You will need to use your pirate’s unique special abilities effectively, sharing items and coordination to ensure that the treasure is carried to safety.
The tension constantly ramps up as the ship’s powder kegs threaten to end your journey prematurely. Victory requires the crew to retrieve a specific amount of treasure and escape to their own ship before the Skalit’s Revenge sinks to the bottom of the ocean or the deckhand reinforcements become too numerous to handle. Dead Men Tell No Tales offers a challenging, highly atmospheric experience for 2–5 players that rewards quick thinking, teamwork, and the courage to run straight into the flames.
